Spray, Roll-On & Stick – what’s really worth it
You can find a wide variety of deodorants in drugstores today. But not every one is ideal for you—or your skin.
- Sprays: Quickly applied, dry instantly—practical for hectic days. But only a small amount actually reaches the skin; the rest disperses into the air or is inhaled. Especially in small spaces like the bathroom, this creates unnecessary stress on the respiratory system and the environment. Furthermore, spray cans are usually not refillable and are often made of energy-intensive metal composites.
- Roll-ons: They can be applied more precisely. At the same time, with frequent use, skin flakes or hair often remain on the ball – which isn't ideal from a hygiene perspective. While antibacterial ingredients prevent the growth of germs, residues remain. In addition, the packaging is rarely reusable and usually ends up in the trash.
- Sticks: A solid, wax-based version – often formulated with natural ingredients. Sticks are similar to deodorant creams in effect and application. However, they also involve direct skin contact: residues or bacteria can transfer to the product, especially with frequent use.
Deodorant cream – back to the roots
Did you know that the first commercial deodorant cream was sold under the name "Mum" in 1888? Long before sprays or roll-ons came along, people used nourishing ointments to naturally regulate body odor.

What you should pay attention to when choosing your deodorant
Many conventional deodorants – especially sprays – contain ingredients such as:

- Synthetic fragrances
- Microplastics or preservatives
These substances land directly on your skin, can irritate it, and are absorbed through your pores. This doesn't have to be the case.
